safe practices shouldnt be limited to "real" arms or only if the area is crowded not barren.
Plastic or lead, air or cordite, desolate or lonely, real arms or toy guns.
Always follow the same protocol.
Dont get into the habit of unsafe practices even with "harmless" arms, else it will become just that:
